Bathrooms are the second most challenging room to keep clean (after kitchens). Our professional cleaners have picked up some seriously effective tricks over the years. Here are seven of the best.
1. White Vinegar for Limescale
Fill a sandwich bag with white vinegar and tie it around the showerhead overnight. By morning, the limescale dissolves and water flow improves dramatically.
2. Baking Soda Paste for Grout
Mix baking soda with water to form a thick paste. Apply to grout lines with an old toothbrush, leave for 15 minutes, then scrub and rinse. The difference is remarkable.
3. Squeegee After Every Shower
The single most effective thing you can do to prevent soap scum and limescale buildup is to squeegee the glass and tiles after every shower. Takes 30 seconds and saves hours of deep cleaning.
4. Toilet Brush Holder Hack
Pour a small amount of disinfectant into the toilet brush holder. This keeps the brush clean between uses and prevents odour buildup.
5. Microfibre for Mirrors
Forget paper towels. A dry microfibre cloth on glass gives a streak-free finish every time. Spray glass cleaner on the cloth, not the mirror, to avoid drips.
6. Extractor Fan Attention
Dust your bathroom extractor fan monthly. A clogged fan doesn't remove moisture effectively, which leads to mould. Most covers pop off easily for cleaning.
7. The "Top to Bottom" Rule
Clean the bathroom in this order: mirror, tiles, basin, toilet, floor. Everything drips down, so working top to bottom means you clean each surface only once.
