Terms

Scrubster puts customers and self-employed cleaners in touch, checks that cleaners are eligible, and holds the payment until the work is done.

Who contracts with whom

The cleaning contract is between you and the cleaner. We are not a cleaning company and the cleaner is not our employee. What we provide is the marketplace, the verification and the payment protection.

The price

The quote you accept is what you pay. Our commission is taken from what the cleaner receives, not added to your side. If the job turns out to be bigger than described, the cleaner may ask you to agree a new price before continuing.

Holding and releasing the payment

We take the payment when you book and hold it. It is released to the cleaner when you confirm the work, or automatically 24 hours after they mark it finished. Raise a problem before that and the money stays where it is while we look at it.

Cancelling

Two days before the work or more, cancelling costs nothing and you are refunded in full. Inside that, the cleaner keeps part of what the job would have paid them — half within two days, three quarters within twelve hours — because a slot given up at that notice is a day they cannot sell to anybody else. We take no commission from a cancellation; every penny of it goes to the cleaner.

The exact figures for your booking are on the screen before you confirm, and the terms you saw before paying are the ones that apply. They are frozen at that moment, so a later change to our policy does not reach back to a booking you already made.

A cleaner is held to the same hour. Up to two days before, they can hand the job back and you are refunded in full. After that they cannot drop out on their own: they come to us, and we either find you somebody else at the same price or refund you in full.

Scrubster Credit

Credit comes off a booking, up to a tenth of its total. It is not money: it cannot be withdrawn, transferred to somebody else or paid to a cleaner. Each amount lasts twelve months from the day it was earned, and the oldest is always spent first.

For cleaners

You decide which jobs to quote for and what to charge. You keep your own insurance and your own tax affairs. Your documents must stay valid: when one expires you stop being able to take new work until it is replaced, though work already booked is not cancelled.

When we step in

We can suspend an account, refuse a payout or reverse credit where there is fraud or a serious safety problem. Every such decision is recorded against the person who made it, with a reason, and we will tell you what it was.
